Microsoft MVP

Greetings. My name is Tom Porterfield. I am an MVP in the desktop systems area for Microsoft. You will find me regularly participating in the newsgroups on Microsoft's news server. If you need assistance with any area of Windows 95, you can post your question in one of many newsgroups on the Microsoft news server.

I recently returned from the 2005 MVP Summit. More info on that can be found here.

You can also get a great deal of help using the Microsoft Knowledge Base. Also see my tips page for my answers to some of the more commonly asked questions in the newsgroups.

I work as a Programmer for a large insurance company. We use Microsoft Developer Studio to do the majority of our PC programming. Most of our apps are being written in C++ using MFC and also Visual Basic.

I also do some free lance work as a PC consultant on the side. It is this knowledge and experience that I bring as an MVP. The MVP program is Microsoft's way of recognizing those who are willing and able to help others with problems in the MS newsgroups. MVP's are not employees of Microsoft which means that they do what they do on their own time. However, I have found that I have learned as much in my participation in the newsgroups as I have taught to others.

If you have a sense of humor, here a some of the documents that have been passed around the workspace. I don't know who the author of any of them, so if they're yours, let me know and I will give you due credit. Warning, some of the material may be offensive to sensitive people.
